18th MARCH - NUNO FELT

We will have a great workshop on 18th March at Swansea Museum with Pat Johnson, who was such a brilliant tutor at the Shop of Skills last summer. This time Pat will be exploring Nuno Felt from which she creates wonderful pieces that she develops into items of clothing and accessories.

Workshop Costs £25 - payable to Swansea Festival of Stitch

There are very few requirements needed for this workshop, (details below images) mainly an apron to keep you dry and bags to take your nuno felt home in! Pat will bring the essentials.

This 'Nuno Felting' is derived from the Japanese word "nuno" meaning cloth and the technique bonds loose fibre, here the merino wool into a sheer fabric such as silk chiffon, creating a lightweight felt.

You will learn how to blend hand dyed silk chiffon and merino wool then make a variety of samples using Habotai silk, cotton scrim, muslin, and viscose. The day will be enjoyable for beginners and people with a little experience of felt-making.

Pat will supply materials at a cost of £4 so just bring along 2/3 towels, notebook, sharp scissors, a plastic apron and carriers to take home the felt, everything else will be provided.

The workshop will be held in the Education Room at Swansea Museum.

Cost £25 – payable to Swansea Festival of Stitch.
